About Joy.
Person-centred counselling offering a compassionate and grounded space where you can explore your life at your own pace.
A journey of healing and connection…
I’m originally from Edinburgh and spent many years working in the health and fitness world, both here and overseas. My early work focused on supporting individuals and communities to improve their physical health.
Over time, I began to notice that many people were carrying far more than just physical strain. Alongside their physical wellbeing, they were navigating emotional pain, life transitions and deeper personal challenges. I naturally found myself supporting people in those spaces as well.
This gradually led me into working more intentionally with people experiencing emotional difficulties, particularly those living with addiction. It became clear to me that healing is rarely about one part of our lives alone. It is about the whole person.
A whole-person approach
My background in working with the body continues to influence the way I work today.
Our experiences are not only held in our thoughts, but also in our bodies. Stress, grief, uncertainty and life’s transitions can often show up physically as well as emotionally.
As a therapist, I bring a grounded and embodied perspective to counselling. I aim to create a steady space where you can explore what you are carrying, reconnect with yourself, and move towards greater clarity and balance.
A personal understanding of the work
This work is deeply personal to me.
Becoming a therapist was not simply a career change. It grew out of my own journey and the inner work I have done over time. I have spent time sitting in the client’s chair myself, and I understand what it can feel like to face challenges, feel stuck, and begin the slow and hopeful process of change.
Those experiences have shaped the way I work today. I bring a deep respect for the courage it takes to speak about what is difficult, and I aim to offer a space where you can feel safe enough to be fully yourself.
Respecting your beliefs and values
My own life is grounded in faith, which shapes the way I understand trust, hope and growth.
However, I work with people of all faiths and none, and I deeply respect the beliefs, values and perspectives that are important to you.
Therapy is your space. If spirituality is something you wish to explore, we can. If it is not part of your life, that is equally welcome.
Person-centred counselling
I work in a person-centred way, trusting that healing grows from a genuine and compassionate relationship.
My role is not to fix or diagnose you. Instead, I aim to create a steady and supportive space where you can explore your life at your own pace.
Together we take time to understand what you are experiencing, helping you reconnect with your own clarity, strength and sense of direction.
I don’t sit opposite you as the expert on your life.
I sit alongside you.
Life outside the therapy room
Outside of the therapy room, I still enjoy movement and being active. I spend time at the gym, practise yoga, and most of all enjoy being outdoors.
Nature is where I reconnect with myself. It is where I find calm, clarity and perspective.
Healing often begins when we feel truly heard and accepted.
A space to come home to yourself
Therapy, to me, is a space where we begin to come home to ourselves.
My role is not to lead the way or tell you what to do. It is to walk alongside you as you navigate your own path forward.
I will meet you with honesty, compassion and a strong belief in your capacity for growth and change.
